Samuel Takyi and Kamarudeen Boyefio both made weight for their over-the-limit super featherweight contest on Friday night.
The bout headlines a card promoted by Ike Quartey’s Bazooka Promotions and Management Syndicate at Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra.
Takyi (pictured right), who is making his pro debut after winning bronze at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo, weighed in at 133 pounds and Boyefio came in well under at 125.9 pounds.
The 21-year-old Takyi opted to turn pro after ending Ghana’s 29-year Olympic medal drought despite calls by many in the Ghana boxing community for him to continue his amateur career and compete at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in July.
“I am very confident of a victory tomorrow because I know what I can do in the ring,” Takyi told BoxingAfrica.com following Thursday’s weigh-in.
“This is my debut fight and I am very focused on making it a memorable one. The target is the world title and I am prepared to work tirelessly for that in the coming years.”
Takyi’s opponent, Boyefio (11-10, 8 KOs), is winless in his last four bouts including his most recent one, a third-round TKO loss to Fahad Al Bloushi (9-1, 2 KOs) last December.
On the undercard, Issah Inusah will take on Abubakar Mustapha in a light heavyweight contest.
Derrick Quaye and Daniel Quaye will engage in a rematch of their super lightweight bout which ended in a draw last December.
In a lightweight contest, Enoch Lamptey will fight Issah Awal while Emmanuel Arday Aryee and Francis Aryee are set to slug it out at super lightweight.
