IBF World Lightweight Champion Richard Commey was brimming with conference during his meeting with the Ghana press Friday afternoon in Accra.
BoxingAfrica.com caught up with Commey following the press conference, where the world champion discussed his first title defense, a TKO win over former world champion Ray Beltran.
Commey is now set to face undefeated Brooklyn, New York native Teofimo Lopez in what promises to be a fight full of fireworks. Lopez set up the showdown with a unanimous decision win over Masayoshi Nakatani last week in an IBF world title eliminator.
Commey also addressed the recent comments of unified world lightweight champion and pound-for-pound entrant Vasiliy Lomachenko, who stated that though he believed Commey would beat Lopez, his preference was to face the latter.
Finally, Ghana’s only world champion discussed the possibility of a rematch versus Robert Easter Jr. Easter says he would be willing to face Commey again, after defeating him via disputed split decision back in 2016 for the vacant IBF world lightweight title–which Commey currently holds.
