Last month, prior to Richard Commey’s scintillating world title defense against Ray Beltran, BoxingAfrica.com sat down with Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) President Peter Zwennes, Esq., for a candid conversation.
Zwennes is no Johnny-Come-Lately to the sport, having been involved in the Sweet Science since his childhood. During his tenure as president of the GBA, the sport has witnessed a resurgence in Ghana. That includes the emergence of two new world champions. First, Isaac Dogboe, who held his WBO World Super Bantamweight title briefly but remains a major player. And, of course, Richard Commey, the current IBF World Lightweight Champion and fast rising Black star of Ghana.
But there is more to this tale of Ghana boxing. Check out what Zwennes had to say about it all, from the amateurs to the pros, from Commey to Dogboe, from Joseph Agbeko to Joshua Clottey, Emmanuel “Gameboy” Tagoe and much more during this open conversation.
