Ghana’s Wasiru “Gyatabi” Mohammed, the reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) Africa Bantamweight Champion, will return to the ring for the first time since last October in a WBO Global Super Bantamweight title bout against Tanzania’s Loren Japhet at Accra Sports Stadium (Sports Hall) on Saturday, June 15.
The card, named “Ascension, The Lion Roars,” is set to give Wasiru his first chance to defend his title, following a victory over Isaac Sackey to clinch the WBO Africa Bantamweight title.
The undefeated Ghanaian pugilist (11, 0, KO9) is currently ranked number 14 by the WBO and a victory on Saturday would move him further into the top 10 boxers in the division on the world ranking.
His opponent, Japhet on the other side has lost twice in 13 bouts (9-2-2, 2 KOs) in 73 rounds of boxing with Knock Outs (KOs) percentage of 15.
The title up for grabs was introduced by the WBO in 2018 and Wasiru could be the first Ghanaian to pick that belt, should he win on the night.
There would be a press conference by promoters E&J Promotions on Friday, June 14 at the Accra Sports Stadium Media Center at 11:00 GMT.
Other supporting fights on the night are; Eric Quarm facing off with Odartey Lartey, Lesko Sossaya locking horns with Lartei Lartey, whilst Mubarak K Abubakar battles with Jacob Laryea.
