Charles Manyuchi Boxing Academy has sealed an accord with top Zambian stable, Exodus Academy, in a development that is set to see the pair embarking on massive exchange programs for the benefit of the sport.
Exodus Academy proprietor and former Olympiad, Antony Mwamba, expressed confidence the partnership will yield positive results.
“We have entered a mutually beneficial partnership with Charles Manyuchi’s academy. We have realised the opportunities abundant in both Zambia and Zimbabwe which can propel the sport to dizzy heights,” he said. “We have seen that we can actually do better with this partneship in place as we will create opportunities for boxers from both stables.
“It’s high time we unlock the potential both Zimbabwe and Zambia have shown in the international scene.”
Exodus has produced one of the best boxers to emerge from this continent, Ester Phiri, who has won four world titles before calling it quits recently. She was the last holder of the WIBA intercontinental crown which fell vacant before her protege Mbewe won it on Saturday night.
On the other hand, Manyuchi’s Academy is relatively still new but has shown great potential over the past few years as its boxers feel very much inspired by the stable’s director Charles Manyuchi who is a former WBC silver welter weight champion.
The 30-year old Manyuchi is still very much in the game and is set to trade leather with Alia Alejandro Zampedri of Argentina in the IBF intercontinental title bout on May 25 at the Harare International Conference Centre. Several fighters both from his academy and Exodus are billed to take part in the supporting bouts.
Said Manyuchi: “We wish to grow the sport of boxing so by partnering other regional academies, we intend to learn and embark on exchange programmes which can benefit not only our academy but the country as a whole.”
Manyuchi himself saw his career bloom while he was under the wings of a Zambian stable, Oriental Quarries which he is still fighting under, as he wind up his time in the ring to concentrate on his academy.
