Regis Prograis was too powerful for Julius Indongo. Prograis scored four knockdowns in all at the Deadwood Mountain Grand in Deadwood. South Dakota, finishing the job at 2:54 of the second round.
Prograis is now the interim WBC super lightweight champion. Jose Ramirez and Amir Imam will battle for the vacant title on March 17. The winner is expected to face Prograis next.
Indongo’s troubles began in the first, when he was rocked by a seemingly moderate jab. Moments later, a right hook to the solar plexus introduced him to the canvas. Indongo rose quickly, but wobbled to his corner after the bell sounded.
The two southpaws traded early in the second. Prograis’ punches were powerful and accurate. A short, overhand left midway through the round dropped the Namibian to the mat again. Indongo got up at five, still hurt. Once action resumed, Prograis stepped in with another powerful left, crumpling Indongo a third time.
No one would’ve complained if referee Ian John Lewis stopped the massacre then. But Indongo made it to his feet, promptly walking into another big left that felled him for a fourth time. Referee Lewis immediately stopped the bout.
Prograis moves to 21-0, with 18 KOs. Indongo drops to 22-2, with 11 KO. After unifying two 140lb. titles in April 2017, he’s now suffered devastating stoppage losses in successive bouts.
