Kalakoda Boxing Promotions and Kwesé Sports’ Friday Fight Nights moves onto its next adventure on October 27 — a bumper event in Accra, the spiritual home of African boxing.
The event will be staged at Africa’s only purpose-build boxing facility, the Bukom Boxing Arena, a 3 500-seater venue which will provide the backdrop to five undercard bouts and two ABU West Africa title fights.
“Ghana and West Africa is a new territory for us and we are excited about the many possibilities and opportunities that exist,” Kalakoda marketing director Jeremy Bean says.
Friday Fight Nights moves to Accra, Ghana on 27 October for Bukom Beatdown, headlined by the vacant WABU Cruiserweight title fight between local duo Abraham Tabul and Stephen Abbey. The event will be broadcast live on Kwesé Free Sports. Click here to find out where and how you can get Kwesé TV, or get ticket information here.
“The local fans are very knowledgeable and passionate about the sport, and to stage an event in Bukom where greats like Azumah Nelson call home is an honour.”
The fight bill is topped by an all Ghana affair, with promising local cruiserweight Abraham Tabul taking on Stephen Abbey for the vacant WABU Title.
The co-main event sees Sie Palenfo from the Ivory Coast take on Samuel Turkson from Ghana for the vacant WABU welterweight title.
“I don’t know much about my opponent from Ivory Coast, but I am very fit and ready to go; the title is staying in Accra,” Turkson says defiantly.
The remainder of the bill is made up of fighters from Gabon, Cameroon and Nigeria, giving the event a true West African flavour and showcasing some great up-and-coming boxers.
“The Friday Fight Nights events and Kalakoda Promotions’ positioning sees a fusion of world-class boxing, music and popular culture … a knockout combination where the fans can’t lose,” says Abdel Banda of Kalakoda Ghana.
Other than the boxing, entertainment will be provided by local artists like M3DAL, La Memme Gang, Joey B and DJ Vyrusky, along with Kalakoda’s resident DJ Switch.
The event will go out live across the continent on Kwesé Free Sports, Kwesé Sports 1, Soweto TV and the Kwesé Mobile App.
