Nigeria’s Larry Ekundayo returns on July 8th, according to promoter Frank Warren. Ekundayo will fight for the WBO Inter-continental welterweight title at the Copper Box Arena in London.
Ekundayo (12-0) faces highly-ranked Gary Corcoran (16-1), who recently campaigned at a higher weight division. Corcoran is no soft touch. Corcoran is moving down for this fight. Ekundayo must be at his best.
Ekundayo is a former African boxing champion and Prize Fighter winner. He is the main support to WBO 160lb. champion Billy Joe Saunders on this card. Saunders defends his world title that night. Billy Joe draws the eyes of all boxing fans when he fights.
An Ekundayo win catapults him high into the WBO world rankings. A couple more will lead him to a world title shot.
“The Natural” attracted major media attention when world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua asked all Nigerians to get behind him.
Ekundayo is already working in London gyms.
“I would really likely to thank my management team, MTK, for arranging this title shot,” he said. “And Frank Warren for giving me an opportunity to showcase my skills in front of a global audience.”
Ekundayo is Nigeria’s best chance to deliver sporting success in 2017. He proudly wears his country’s colors on his trunks in each fight and is thrilled to have the whole nation behind him.
“They Nigerian National Assembly passed a bill to help support me and help bring big time boxing back to Nigeria,” he noted. “If we as fighters are supported correctly, we can rule the world of boxing!”
Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, blessed Larry Ekundayo and fellow elite level boxer, Olusegun Ajose. The Ooni supports all Nigerians in the diaspora seeking to bring glory to their fatherland. Ekundayo is leading that charge.
The Ooni of Ife urges all Nigerians in the UK and Europe to attend the boxing event. He says maximum support for Larry Ekundayo is needed in his forthcoming bout.
