The Uganda national boxing team, The Bombers, have less than a month until the step into the ring at the Africa championships later this month in Congo-Brazzaville.
A team of 21 pugilists is expected to start vigorous residential training May 1 at the National Council of Sports hostel in Lugogo.
The team will be cut to 10 pugilists who are expected to raise Uganda’s flag at the event when action gets underway on May 27 in Brazzaville.
Boost On Thursday last week, the team received a boost when National Council of Sports (NCS) general secretary Nicholas Muramagi announced that council would provide six air tickets to help the administration in planning for the team.
Council also revealed that the team would be allowed to use the Lugogo facility without any payment.
Uganda Boxing Federation earlier revealed that they needed at least Shs220M to have the boxers ready for the Africa event as well as the AIBA World Boxing championships later in August in Hamburg, Germany.
Ugandan won five bronze medals from the last edition of the continental showpiece held in Morocco in 2015.
