Ghana-based ACE Power Promotions has announced an October 16 card at Accra’s La Palm Royal Beach Hotel featuring two unbeaten fighters in separate bouts, Robert Quaye and Holy Dorgbetor.
Quaye (19-0, 16 KOs) will take on countryman Richard Amenfu (10-6, 7 KOs) while the 22-year-old Dorgbetor (7-0, 5 KOs) faces Success Tetteh (10-2, 8 KOs) for the Ghana featherweight title.
Known as “The Stopper,” Quaye has had a strange career arc thus far. The 28-year-old super lightweight turned pro in 2013, a year where he fought eight times. The Ghana boxing community had high hopes for the hard-hitter but outside-the-ring issues stalled his career. He has had only two fights since 2018 and his quality of opposition has been largely disappointing, with no clear developmental plan.
Sadly, that trend will continue on October 16 as he faces another below-average opponent.
Dorgbetor is a rising 126-pounderwho, like Quaye, is facing the typical string of local foes who do little to prepare Ghana boxers for the international level. That said, Tetteh, Dorgbetor’s opponent is a decent step up, particular as Dorgbetor is coming off a second-round TKO win over veteran Edward Kambasa last March.
The fairly new ACE Power Promotions hopes to impact Ghana boxing by staging these events at popular tourist locations as they seek to become the nation’s industry leader in boxing promotions.
Their third event was originally scheduled for July 10 but was postponed and is now set for Saturday, October 16.
A press conference to announce the full card and more details has been set for Tuesday, September 21, at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, the venue where the fights will occur.
“As we have always said and continue to say, we want to take the organisation of boxing in Ghana, West Africa and Africa as a whole to the next level,” said ACE Power Promotions General Manager Isaac Amankwaah to ghanasportsonline.com.
“Therefore, we will not disappoint this time round too, we are going to produce a world-class show with about four titles on the bill on Saturday, October 16 at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel. It will not just be a good atmosphere but also very quality fights to excite boxing fans.”
