Uganda’s welterweight boxer Muzamir “King Kong” Kakande beat Clair Merven of Mauritius in the final of the International Boxing Association (AIBA) African Boxing Championships in Congo Brazzaville on Sunday.
Kakande’s victory ensured Uganda returned with a gold medal as well as two silver medals.
Uganda will be represented by three boxers at the World Boxing Championships due in Hamburg in August.
The other two boxers are David ‘The Dragon’ Ayiti (Super Heavy) and Geoffrey Kakeeto (Bantamweight).
The duo lost their respective semifinal clashes on Sunday.
Uganda had entered a total of 9 boxers at the championship.
During the last edition in 2015, five of eight Ugandans reached the semis, with four qualifying for the World Championship in Doha, Qatar.
Team Uganda returns home on Tuesday.
