Former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs, believes fellow Brooklyn native Jarrell Miller, is going to be a legit test for Anthony Joshua, who makes his United States debut in June.
The undefeated Miller will challenge Joshua for the WBO, WBA, IBO, IBF heavyweight belts on June 1 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Briggs, who plans to obtain a boxing license in the UK for a potential comeback campaign, views Miller as a very dangerous opponent.
There is a lot of heat between the two rivals, which led to this contest taking place.
Back in the summer of last year, Miller confronted Joshua at a DAZN press conference held in New York and the two boxers had to be separated. The same took place earlier this, when the two fighters came face to face for their kickoff press conference and Miller proceeded to push Joshua.
Miller is the clear underdog in the bout. His massive frame and his high stamina are two of the main factors which make him a live underdog in the contest.
Briggs is expecting a lot of fireworks and he believes the early rounds will be an indicator on how the fight will play out.
“[Miller] is a phenomenal fighter, he is a real test for AJ,” Briggs warned Sky Sports.
“He is a tough guy. He’s a locomotive, once he gets started it is hard to stop him. He will have to establish the jab early and, if ‘Big Baby’ gets warmed up, it could be a crazy night.
“[Joshua] is fighting undefeated guys and, only with 22 fights, he is at the top of his game. I predict this fight like this: It depends on the first round. Whoever is passive will lose.
“This had the making of a great fight because you have a guy who can box and a guy who is a slugger.”
