Team Ghana boxing will not compete in boxing at the Olympic Games for the first time in 20 years after last hope Dr Ornella Sathoud lost her women’s round 16 bout in the last World Boxing Qualifying Tournament in Bangkok, Thailand.
Sathoud who was one of the last boxers standing with Theophilus Allotey lost the middleweight bout 0-5 on unanimous point to Shierleidis Orozco of Colombia to end all seven boxers’ hopes of competing at Paris 2024 in July.
On Friday, 31 May, Theophilus Allotey suffered a 2-3 lost China’s Chuang Liu in the men’s flyweight (51kg).
Ghanaian qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris, despite Ghanaian representation at the 2023 African Qualifiers in Senegal and the 2024 tournament in Busto Arsizio, Italy.
It is the first time Ghana will not compete in boxing at the Olympics since Athens in 2004.
