Joshua Oluwaseun Wahab won’t have it easy when he faces unbeaten Brit Mark Chamberlain tonight in Saudi Arabia.
The 25-year-old Chamberlain (15-0, 11 KOs) is a hard-hitting southpaw who has gained a following with his aggressive, combination-punching style. But an easy fight isn’t expected with the WBC Silver Lightweight belt on the line. Wahab (23-1, 16 KOs), who is originally from Nigeria, didn’t have much success against the last Englishman he fought, losing a 12-round decision to Liam Dillon in September 2022.
Wahab, 26, will also be the smaller man heading into this fight, having campaigned at super featherweight for the majority of his career. But this is an opportunity of a lifetime. The bout is part of the undercard for the historic undisputed heavyweight championship bout between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr. Thus, the entire boxing world will be watching all the action taking place at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
A win over Chamberlain, who is ranked No. 10 by the WBC at 135, moves Wahab in line for a shot against titleholder Shakur Stevenson, or some of the other top contenders in the division, including Edwin De Los Santos, Keyshawn Davis and Andy Cruz Jr.
Wahab has spent the past few days in Riyadh making the rounds, taking selfies with luminaries such as Ryan Garcia. Indeed, a star-studded crowd of notables will be expected at Kingdom Arena tonight. Can Wahab join that group by making a name for himself tonight?
