India has enjoyed tremendous success at the IBA Junior World Boxing Championships in Yerevan, Armenia, with 12 boxers advancing to the finals.
Amisha (54kg) and Payal (48kg) secured wins against opponents from Romania and Kazakhstan, triumphing unanimously.
Prachi Tokas (80+kg) dominated her bout against Osipova Mariia of Russia, prompting the referee to stop the contest in the first round. Similarly, Megha (80kg) secured victory in round three against Tseng An Chi of Chinese Taipei.
Vini (57kg), Akansha (70kg), and Shrushti (63kg) secured identical 5-0 unanimous decision wins to reach the finals. Nisha (52kg) fought hard for a 4-1 win over Russia’s Sikstus Diana after an initial struggle.
Among the boys, Hardik Panwar (80kg) and Hemant Sangwan (80+kg) earned comfortable 5-0 unanimous decision wins. Jatin (54kg) overcame a tough challenge from K Pavel of Russia to secure a 4-1 victory. Sahil emerged victorious with a 3-2 split decision against D Vladimir of Russia in a closely contested match.
Neha (46kg), Nidhi (66kg), Pari (50kg), Kritika (75kg), and Sikandar (48kg) concluded their campaign with bronze medals. The finals are scheduled for December 3 and December 4, 2023.
