It’s an all Africa showdown on April 29. That day, Ivorian Ryad Merhi will face South Africa’s Kevin Lerena in a WBC cruiserweight title eliminator.
The bout is set to take place in Johannesburg, South Africa. Merhi (31-1, 26 KOs) is the former WBA cruiserweight world champion and seeking to become a two-time world titlist as the winner of the fight will become the mandatory challenger for the WBC Cruiserweight World Championship. That belt is currently vacant as Alen Babich and Lukasz Ruzhansky are due to fight for the vacant WBC title in this weight category in March.
In his last appearance, Lerena (28-2, 14 KOs) lost to Daniel Dubois for the WBA regular heavyweight belt. He is moving back down for this fight.
