South Africa’s Siphelele Myeza from KwaZulu-Natal was stopped in the 11th round by Matt Windle of Birmingham, England, in a bout for the vacant Commonwealth light flyweight title at the Premier Banqueting Suite, Burmantofts, Leeds, England, on Saturday night.
The previously unbeaten Myeza (8-1-0; 0), who was listed as a favourite by some betting sites, held his own through most of the first ten rounds.
There was little in it before going into the 11th round before the 32-year-old Windle (7-4-1; 0) backed up the South African against the ropes and dropped him with an overhand right.
Myeza, who is rated at No 6 in South Africa, beat the count but the referee waived the fight off at 1 minute 42 seconds into the round.
