Fresh off a victory in his pro debut, Ghana’s Samuel Takyi plans to keep active and says he believes greatness awaits him.
Takyi, the Olympic bronze medalist, enjoyed a successful first pro bout, scoring a second-round TKO over veteran Kamarudeen Boyefio in an over-the-weight super featherweight contest at Accra’s Bukom Boxing Arena.
The fight headlined a Bazooka Promotions and Management Syndicate card, the outfit led by Ghana boxing legend Ike “Bazooka” Quartey.
Takyi enjoyed a significant edge in talent—and in weight. While Boyefio weighed around 125-pounds, Takyi came in far heavier at 133.
The size and talent disparity were obvious from the word go. Takyi dropped Boyefio (11-11, 8 KOs) three times in the opening round, then knocked him down twice in the second before a flurry of punches convinced referee Erasmus Owoo to mercifully stop the fight.
“This is the beginning of greater things to come my way as a pro,” Takyi told BoxingAfrica.com after the bout. “I am ready to face anybody at lightweight.
“I feel good and I believe I can make an impact at the world stage within the next three years.”
It was a left jab to the chin that first dropped Boyefio in the opening frame. Takyi continued with a combinations upstairs, dropping him again with a flush right cross.
Takyi pounced on the experienced fighter and sent him to the canvas again with another right hand but Boyefio managed to beat the count thanks to the bell. The fight could have been stopped then.
Boyefio continued receiving punishment in the second round with Takyi throwing his combinations. Takyi continued toying with his opponent after landing punches without any response from Boyefio.
Referee Owoo finally decided to stop the fight after seeing Boyefio visit the canvas twice more in the second without any intention of being competitive.
On the undercard, Derrick Quaye (3-0-1, 2 KOs) earned a unanimous decision win over nemesis Daniel Quaye (0-1-1) during a six-round super lightweight rematch. Judges scored the bout 60-55, 59-56, and 59-56 in favor of the winner.
Issah Inusah (3-0, 3 KOs) roared back from three knockdowns to secure a seventh-round TKO victory over Abubakar Mustapha (0-2) in a light heavyweight contest.
In an international lightweight contest, Ghana’s Ezekiel Annan (10-5-2, 8 KOs) decisioned Imorou Wali of Benin. Scores read 77-71, 77-75, and 77-76 in the eight-round bout.
Emmanuel Arday Aryee retired Francis Aryee in four rounds of their super lightweight bout.
