Well-known Durban promoter Thulani Nkunzi Magudulela of Ludonga Boxing Promotions died of Covid-19 on Tuesday morning.
It was believed that he was only in his late 50s.
According to reports, he tested positive for Covid-19 last Thursday, only two days before his scheduled tournament with two World Boxing Federation titles scheduled for the Kwagghikazi Hall in KwaNongoma on Sunday.
The tournament was cancelled by Boxing SA because Magudulela’s fighters, Ibram Tamba from Tanzania and Ayanda Mthembu from KwaZulu-Natal and other fighters tested positive for the virus.
Magudulela began his career in boxing as a matchmaker for Mzimasi Mnguni, who passed away on Sunday, before going out on his own as a boxing promoter.
He had produced champions like Moruti Mthalane and Thabiso Mchunu from KwaZulu-Natal.
In 2010 at the annual Boxing SA awards, he was named Promoter of the Year.
