Boxing fans have been given something to smile about right at the end of a year in which very little leather was traded due to COVID-19.
The stage is the magnificent Country Club in Windhoek, Namibia next Saturday, when the MTC Nestor “Sunshine” Tobias Boxing Academy rolls out the Together as One fight night.
The main event will see Jeremiah Makathila Atrading going toe-to-toe with Emmanuel Amos for the World Boxing Organszation Junior Lightweight title.
And the undercard also does not disappoint.
Zimbabwe’s Brandon Denes takes on holder, Namibia’s Mikka Shonena, for the WBO Africa title; while Ronald Tamani (Zimbabwe) will enter the ring against Philipus Ngatumbwa (Namibia) in an international super bantamweight title bout.
Patson Mutengwa of Zimbabwe will come face to face with the legendary Harry Simon of Namibia in a welterweight title fight; and Tinashe Zihove, another Zimbabwean, is up against Paulinus Ndjolonimus (Namibia). Liberty Muwani will be seeking an upset victory over Charles Shinima in another Zimbabwe-Namibia showdown.
Zimbabwean promoter Clyde Musonda said, “There is no better way to wrap the year than watching Zimbabwean boxers fighting against their Namibian counterparts. It’s always a rivalry and each time this happens the excitement is out of this world. We are looking forward to a bumper event.”
