It has been reported that South Africa’s Thabiso Mchunu is scheduled to meet Nigerian Olanrewaju Durodola in a final eliminator for the WBC cruiserweight belt held by Ilunga Makabu.
At the WBC weekly “Martes de Cafe” press conference it was announced that the winner of the rights to promote the fight was DiBella Entertainment, who will have 90 days to carry out the necessary obligations.
The 32-year-old southpaw Mchunu who has an outstanding record of 23-4; 15 has won the South African, WBA Pan African, African Boxing Union, NABF, interim WBA and WBC silver cruiserweight titles.
The only losses in his career have come against Zack Mwekase (tko 6), Ilunga Makabu (ko 11) the current WBC champion, Oleksandr Usyk (tko 9) and Constantin Bejanaru (pts 10).
Durodola, 39, has a record of 33-7; 30 and fights out of Kansas City in the USA
In his most recent fight Mchunu scored a win over the experienced Russian Denis Lebedev by wide margins and Durodola comes off a knockout in three rounds against Abraham Tabul.
Durodola who has been fighting as a pro since January 2014, with five of his losses coming inside the distance.
Mchunu who is ranked at No 1 by the WBC goes into the fight as the favourite but the No 3 rated Durodola could prove dangerous with a 75 per cent knockout ratio.
