In a six-round heavyweight opener, Kenya’s Collins Ojal decisioned the Czech Republic’s Georgij Fibich on the Agit Kabayel-Evgenios Lazaridis main event from Seebühne Elbauenpark in Magdeburg, Germany (ESPN+).
Scores were 60-54, 60-54, and 60-55, all to Ojal, who lives and trains in Switzerland.
Ojal, 35, had a distinct size and height advantage over the flabby-waisted Fibich. He came out fast at the opening bell, throwing haymakers but landing few of them. Midway through the round, Fibich managed to quell his opponent by connecting on a counter right hand and hard left to the body.
In the second round, Ojal (4-0, 2 KOs) working more patiently behind his jab – and it paid off. He controlled the distance and the pace and connected on a right hand. At the end of the round, Ojal landed his best combination of the fight: a right hand, followed by a left uppercut, then right hand. For the majority of the fight, Fibich (1-1, 1 KO) played keep away and seemed hesitant in engaging Ojal.
In rounds three to five, neither fighter showed much initiative in taking it to the other.
Ojal finished strong in the sixth and final round, landing several straight right hands as well as a few stiff jabs that caused Fibich’s nose to break open.
