On November 29, Shafik Kiwanuka faces Thamsanqa Dube in his third professional fight. And Kiwanuka is promising a knockout, as he did his first two oppoents.
Kiwanuka, who takes on Zimbabwe’s Thamsanqa in a battle for the vacant World Boxing Federation Africa title, was as usual very bold in his intentions at the recent fight launch.
“Another opponent is about to fall. It is not by mistake that I am called Killing Machine,” stated the heavyweight at the International University of East Africa.
IUEA will host the 12 round fight in its 1,600 seater Kansanga auditorium.
The auditorium is part of an over sh60m offer towards Kiwanuka’s fight. The offer was announced at the launch by IUEA Resident Director Hassan Alwi.
IUEA’s package includes a 1,600 seater modern auditorium, the fight’s sanction fees and fight publicity on top of giving Kiwanuka an IUEA scholarship.
The fight will be telecast live by Urban television and will also be covered across all Vision Group’s platforms.
Alwi, also a rally driver, promised even more support towards Kiwanuka’s quest for a world title.
“I am into sports. I know the challenges that many Ugandan sportsmen face when it gets to sponsorship. That’s why we decided to back Kiwanuka.”
Alwi also promised a first class venue. “We are going to work on it so that those who turn up get a great treat.”
He also revealed his plans to start a sports academy that will not only spot, but also develop and ultimately expose talent both locally and internationally.
Salim Uhuru, the Uganda Professional Boxing Commission president, commended IUEA for the support and stressed that the fight will run professionally on set prize fighting regulations.
Uhuru also used the occasion to officially launch the fight that will climax a night of eight contests.
Ronald Kaggwa, the Head of Urban TV, promised Vision Group’s full support and commitment to developing sport.
