A Cambodian television station, Town Full HDTV, said on Tuesday that it had reached an agreement with MAS Fight to bring an international boxing program to Cambodia.
“It is the first time that Mas Fight has been introduced in Cambodia,” Kim Srunkosal, general manager of Mas Fight-Cambodia at the Town Full HDTV station, said during a press conference here.
The weekly event will be held every Sunday at the TV’s studio in Phnom Penh’s Russey Keo district, starting from Oct. 27, he said, adding that there will be six matches of Mas Fight and three bouts of Khmer kickboxing, or known as Kun Khmer, at the upcoming event.
Tony Chen, the founder of MAS Fight, said Mas Fight is one of the world’s professional fighting organizations.
According to MAS Fight rules, all fights are scheduled for one round only, which has a duration of nine minutes, he said, adding that there are no judges to score the fight, only a referee to facilitate.
“A fighter can only win by knockout,” he said. “If neither fighter scores a knockout after the single nine-minute round, the fight will be ruled as a draw.”
He said fighters are permitted to throw punches, kicks, knees, elbows, and standing submissions under MAS Fight rules.
Tem Moeun, president of the Cambodian Amateur Boxing Federation, welcomed the MAS Fight event in Cambodia, saying that it would help promote Cambodian martial arts Kun Khmer to international rings.
