Boxing Federation of Kenya has named the final squad of male and female fighters for All African Games set for Rabat Morocco from August 19.
Among the squad is lightweight 64kgs Ethan Maina of Kenya Police and welterweight 75kgs Boniface Mugunde who fights for Kenya Defence Forces side. The two will be making their international debuts.
“No one knew will I be in squad as everybody was good and it was not easy, they have chosen the best so my target is to get a medal since that’s everyone’s aim,” said Mogunde on his selection.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, the team’s head coach Musa Benjamin hailed the squad saying it will bring glory to the country following their vigorous training since leaving Mombasa.
“We started from Mombasa with a provisional squad of 17 boxers but we had to comply with the organizsers standards that’s why we have chosen the best we have for the international duty,”
The pugilist will be joined by BFK vice chairman Isaac Mbote as the teams Team Manger and assistant coach David Munuhe who doubles up as BFK secretary general.
The final squad will continue their residential training at Kasarani indoor arena before jetting out on August 15
