The Uganda men’s boxing team, the Bombers, is continuing with their camp despite the financial challenges.
The squad is preparing for the All Africa Games, set to occur in Morocco in August, yet they haven’t received financial assistance.
The Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) had called off training about a month ago but resumed this week at Uganda’s Prison’s Boxing Club’s facility in Luzira.
Muhangi, the federation’s boss, has called on government to give the team support just like they have done to the Uganda Cranes currently in Afcon and She Cranes heading to Liverpool for world cup.
“The team is in camp at the Luzira prison. We haven’t had any major challenges apart from the issue of allowances. As you can see, it is an issue that is disturbing nearly everyone [Sports associations],” Muhangi told the media.
“It is even harder with the boxing team because we have not received money from government like the case with other federations. The little money that we are providing is from ourselves as the executive members.”
“If we had money to come from the government, then we shall have some to give to them. We really hope that they will heed to our call because netball and Football have received a lot of money.”
