WBA, IBF, WBO World Heavyweight Champion Andy Ruiz Jr. (33-1, 22 KOs) already has a plan in mind when taking on Anthony Joshua in their high-profile rematch.
The rematch is currently being negotiated after Joshua exercised his immediate rematch clause. The second fight is targeted for a date in December, in the UK or back at Madison Square Garden (MSG) in New York.
Ruiz shocked the world on June 1st at MSG, when he stopped Joshua in seven rounds.
Ruiz would like the fight take place in the United States or Mexico.
“We are still negotiating. What is being talked about is whether or not it will take place in the United States or over there on their soil (United Kingdom),” said Ruiz Jr.
The victory over Joshua (22-1, 21 KOs) allowed Ruiz to become the first Mexican heavyweight champion – and also the second Hispanic to be crowned in the heavyweight division, behind Puerto Rico’s John ‘The Quietman’ Ruiz.
The first time around, Ruiz dropped Joshua four times before the fight was waved off. He expects Joshua to box more in the second contest, and Ruiz plans to make it even more of a fight when they meet again.
“We are struggling to have it in the United States or take it to Mexico. That is what we want to do. The negotiations have not been that difficult,” said Ruiz
“We want to be focused and prepared for the rematch. I do not want to lose the belts. I think he’s going to want to box a little [in the rematch], but with the preparation we’re going to do – we’re going to be pushing harder [with more pressure], throwing more punches and more combinations.”
