NAIROBI, July 23 (Xinhua) — Kenya’s Beijing Olympian lightweight boxer Nick Okoth said he intends to win gold in his last show at the Africa Games to be held in Rabat, Morocco next month.
Okoth, 36, is among the 25 boxers named in the Kenya team to start preparations for the continental games. The team will be cut down to 15 – ten men and five women – prior to the contingent departing for Morocco.
“I am hopeful to win gold in a bid to improve on the bronze I won at the last All African Games in Brazzaville, Congo,” Okoth said on Monday.
It will be the last shot for Okoth before he turns professional. Amateur boxing is restricted at 40 years.
The quadrennial Africa Games are scheduled from August 18 to September 1.
