Jonathan Sam and John Masamba showed their class not only during the 2018 amateur boxing season, but also during 2019.
Sam competed for the national senior team, winning a silver medal in the 91kg division at the Zone Four Amateur Boxing Championships in 2018, which was held in Mozambique.
This year Sam represented Johannesburg Boxing Association (JBA), Gauteng and South Africa at the Zone Four championships in Botswana.
He received a bronze medal in his division and will compete in the South African championship, which will be held from July 2 to 7.
Sam will also go to the All Africa Games in Morocco from August 19 to 31.
Masamba competes in the 64kg division. He went to the JBA, Gauteng and SA championships in 2018, where he was named the Boxer of the Tournament and won a gold medal at the SA championship.
He competed in the Region Five Youth Games at the Africa Federation Boxing Committee in Botswana and not only won a gold medal but was named the Best Boxer of the Tournament.
In 2019, he took part at the JBA and Gauteng championships, winning gold medals at both events. He will represent Gauteng at the national championships.
