Several Namibian boxing promoters have banded together to stage a boxing tournament at the Wanderers Sports Club in Pioniers Park on Saturday.
Kinda Promotions, along with AC Boxing, Iron Lady Promotions and 12 Rounds Boxing Academy will stage the event which will see several of Namibia’s up and coming boxers in action.
“We are trying to come together as promoters, because one promoter cannot make it on his own in Namibia. We will have some hot young prospects in action as well as several exciting amateur fights,” the owner of AC Boxing, Imms Moses said.
In the main bout, Sacky Amutja will take on Dominicus Weyulu in a super lightweight fight over six rounds.
Neither boxer has an impressive record with Amutja having won three and lost two professional fights, while Weyulu only has two victories along with six defeats and one draw.
Neither boxer has been very active of late either, with Amutja’s last fight coming in November last year, when he took revenge against Rafael Lita with a points victory, after having lost on points to Iita the previous year.
Weyulu is a bit more experienced, but his record is not very impressive.
He lost his last three fights in a row, while his last victory came more than two years ago when he beat Varde Ndayambekwa on a split decision in April 2017.
In his most recent fight in March this year, Weyulu was no match for Harry Simon Junior, losing on a fourth-round technical knockout.
A month later, Simon went on to win the Namibian super lightweight title with a first-round knockout over Andreas Nghinananye, while Weyulu and Amutja are only ranked fourth and fifth respectively amongst Namibia’s super lightweights.
In the main supporting bout, the exciting Flame ‘Special One’ Nangolo will make his pro debut in a bantamweight fight against Gabriel Moses over four rounds. Nangolo, who is still only 17 years old, is an exciting prospect, having won the Namibian amateur title, while he also won gold at a regional Zone 5 tournament in Botswana last year.
“Flame is a hot prospect. He’s still very young, but we aim to keep him busy, and with the right guidance he could even become a world champion by 20,” Moses said.
In a welterweight fight over four rounds, Alfeus ‘Mosquito’ Shaanika will take on Rafael Iita; while Thomas Ndeitunga will take on Theodor Nujoma in a flyweight fight over four rounds; and Johannes ‘Pacman’ Andreas will take on Paulus Amadhila in a lightweight fight over four rounds.
Several amateur fights will also take place, featuring amongst others the exciting middleweight prospect Gerrie du Plooy.
The amateur fights are scheduled to start at 16h00 and the professional fights at 18h00.
The bonanza is being sponsored by Hollard Insurance, while more information can be obtained from Riaan at 0816232698.
“We invite all boxing lovers, and especially our former and current champions to attend the event, because they serve as role models for our upcoming boxers who will be inspired by their presence,” Moses said.
“We also call on sponsors to come on board and support our upcoming starts, because we are trying to groom future champions,” he added.
