According to reports, former IBF World Welterweight Champion Joshua Clottey is wanted by the police for assaulting a football player.
The incident is said to have taken place on Tuesday, June 4th, during a football match at Bukom fFootball Park. The alleged victim is 21-year-old Sylvester Ayitey-Adjin, who claims he was beaten by Clottey over a misunderstanding the two had.
According to eyewitnesses, the former world champion punched Ayitey-Adjin twice, busting his nose and causing blood to come out.
Clottey was unavailable for comment and has been unreachable since the incident. Police informed local news outlet primenewsghana.com that they are working around the clock to bring the Bukom standout in for questioning.
Ayitey-Adjin is currently being treated at Accra’s Korle Bu Hospital.
The physician on duty confirmed that the patient was assaulted, stating, “Examination shows that patient … had- mouth lacerations, bleeding from the mouth, severe pain at the jaw, neck, and head.”
According to sources, several lawyers have contacted Ayitey-Adjin to handle an assault case versus Clottey pro bono.
Since the incident occurred, 15 other residents of Bukom have lined up at the James Town police station to complain that Clottey assaulted them as well.
