NAMIBIA — BOXING at Rehoboth received a boost when the Legends Boxing Academy was opened last weekend.
The academy was established with the main aim of uplifting the youth of Rehoboth who are mostly jobless and do not have a lot of opportunities to improve their situation.
Anthony Jarmann, Namibia’s former WBA Pan African super welterweight champion was present at the opening along with boxing coach Titus Joseph to conduct the first workshop and to take about 20 eager prospective boxers through their paces.
Training at the gym is free of charge since it is a community project aiming to uplift the youth of Namibia.
The gym is open from Mondays to Fridays from 09h00 to 11h00 and 14h00 to 16h00; and for the working youth, from 18h30 to 20h30. On Saturdays the gym is opened from 09h30 to 11h30 and from 16h00 to 18h00.
The Legends Boxing Academy expressed its gratitude to the Ministry of Youth and Sport for granting them the opportunity to utilise the Youth Centre which is at the old Reho Monte Hotel in Block B.
The Legends Boxing Academy also thanked Ivan Pieters, the Hardap Region’s head of youth affairs, with whom they were working in close collaboration to fulfil their vision.
“We believe that a Rehoboth youth will soon lift a a championship belt,” the LBA added in a press statement.
The Hardap Boxing Federation was also registered on the same day to serve all boxing academies in the Hardap region.
Boxing academies in the Hardap region can now register under the Hardap Boxing Federation to compete in regional competitions. Once entrants start to improve they will be able to represent their country at a national level.
