WINDHOEK – The Eenhana Boxing and Fitness Academy will host its annual amateur boxing bonanza at the Onawa Mini Market complex on April 19.
Event organiser Petrus Gerson told Nampa at the weekend that the purpose of the event is to develop boxers at grassroots level.
Gerson said they have invited other boxing clubs from Ohangwena, as well as from other regions like Zambezi and Oshana.
“The region has talented boxers who are eager to make it big, but they face challenges accessing adequate training equipment and facilities,” he explained.
He said their main challenge is the lack of a boxing ring.
“There is only one, which is at Oshakati, and it is not enough for all of us. We end up sharing it with clubs from other regions, and we have to book it and pay for it before we can use it. So, training facilities are really a challenge here,” said Gerson.
The Eenhana Boxing Club was the overall winner of the event held for the first time last year.
Namibia Boxing Federation president Benjamin Rebang confirmed that the boxing event has been sanctioned.
