The Western Region Amateur Boxing Committee has been tasked to work hard to ensure boxing spreads through the region in line with the Ghana Boxing Authority’s (GBA) vision to popularize the sport throughout the country.
Addressing the newly-appointed members of the committee at its maiden meeting in Takoradi, Mr. Twintoh Walker, the GBA Regional Outreach Committee chairman, said it would be impossible for the nation to make any meaningful headway in the sport if the proper foundation was not laid at the amateur level in the regions.
Mr. Walker, who supplied the 11 members with the needed tools to enhance their work, explained that the appointment of the 11 members was made in consultation with the Western Regional Sports Director, Mr. Jeffery K. Owusu Manzan.
Mr. Walker, who is also the acting president of the GBA in the region, thanked the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) president, Mr. Peter Zwennes, for securing a new boxing ring and equipment for the region, courtesy Trust Emporium Limited, which manages the Bukom Boxing Arena.
He promised to secure sponsorship to help organize regular boxing tournaments to grow the sport in the region.
