In Salt Lake City, Albuquerque’s Abraham Perez defeated St. Louis’ Timothy Jarman by unanimous decision Thursday in the semifinals of the Elite men’s 114-pound weight class at the USA Boxing national championships.
Regardless of the outcome in Perez’s title match Saturday against Michael Angletti of Spring, Texas, Perez by virtue of reaching the final has qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials.
Elsewhere in Salt Lake City, Las Cruces’ Joscelyn Olayo-Munoz won a national title in the Bantam Division’s 70-pound weight class with her victory by unanimous decision over Iveth Alvarez of Pueblo, Colo.
Today in the Elite women’s 152-pound division, Albuquerque’s Sharahya Moreu will face Rio Rancho’s Jocelyn Shade in a semifinal. On Wednesday, Shade defeated Moragen Ferrell of Tulsa, Okla. Moreu won by walkover against Citialli Ortiz of Coachella, Calif. The two New Mexicans are frequent sparring partners.
In the Intermediate Division 106-pound class, Kirtland’s Ezekiel Martinez will face Cornellio Phipps of Oxford, Pa., Today for the boys title. Martinez defeated Kenneth Williams of Raleigh, N.C., in the semifinals.
