London-based Nigerian boxer, Tony ‘Muri Sugar’ Salam, has vowed to take his South Africa-based Zimbabwean opponent, Chomunorwa ‘Sting’ Gonorenda, to the cleaners when both boxers clash in a World Boxing Federation Africa Cruiserweight title fight in Harare, Zimbabwe on August 31.
The Nigerian pugilist has had 11 wins and a defeat in his previous 12 pro fights. He last fought in the Boxfest Challenge held at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos in April, recording a unanimous points decision over highly-rated German opponent, Eugene Buchmeiller.
He said the support Gonorenda would enjoy from his home fans in Harare would not stop him from snatching the WBF African cruiserweight title from the Zimbabwean.
“As far as I’m concerned, Gonorenda is just holding brief for me as I’m the authentic cruiserweight champion of Africa,” a confident Salam, who travels to Harare on August 29, stated.
“Indeed I’m a potential world champion and I’ll get rid of him to give me the opportunity to challenge for the world title very soon. I will force Gonorenda’s wife and children to become my supporters once we step into the ring through classy boxing. I’m a Grade A fighter, while Gonorenda is Grade D, so I’ll beat him silly.”
Meanwhile, manager of the Nigerian boxer, Saleh Fawaz, who is also the CEO of Saleh Gloves Promotion, has predicted doom for the Zimbabwean, tipping his boxer to win convincingly in Harare.
“We at Saleh Gloves Promotions trust Tony to give a very good account of himself. I trust he’ll not disappoint and I’m already seeing the Nigerian flag flying so high as we clinch the title and bring it to Nigeria,” Saleh said.
