The Ghana National Juvenile Boxing Committee was inaugurated last Friday at the Conference Room of the Bukom Boxing Arena during the launch of the Fist of Fury Boxing League.
Members include Patrick Johnson, General Secretary of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Mr. Samad, Vice President of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), Herbert Allotei Cofie, Coach Ofori Asare, Technical Director of the Black Bombers, the national boxing team and Madam Catherine Agyapomaa Appiah – Pinkrah, a Director at the Ministry of Education.
They were introduced and sworn into office by the Acting Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr. Majeed Bawa.
He charged them to work very hard to unearth talents to bring Ghana Amateur Boxing to its glorious day.
Madam Catherine Agyapomaa Appiah – Pinkrah on behalf of the members promised to work hard to deliver with the support of all other boxing fans and officials.
She said the task is not easy, with the competition from other countries that are all itching to grab international laurels.
She noted that Ghana is a blessed nation as far as boxing is concerned and prayed that the talents would be identified and groomed to become national and international champions.
On the same day, the new office of the Ghana Boxing Authority was dedicated by Dr Emmanuel Owusu Ansah, Technical Adviser at the Ministry of Youth & Sports, amidst fanfare and boxing exhibition witnessed by patrons, special guests and dignitaries including Mr. Kwabena Amponsah Dapaah, CEO of TSEL, Joyce Wereko-Ampim Opoku, chairperson of the Trust Sports Emporium Board and General Manager, Administration and Human Resource of SSNIT.
Mr. George Lamptey, President of GBF said Ghana Boxing is doing the right thing by deciding to go to the grassroots to tap the talents and hoped that the nation will fare well in future international tournaments.
Mr. Peter Zwennes, President of the GBA thanked SSNIT, GNPC and the other corporate bodies who are associating themselves with boxing and promised that their investments are in the right direction and will yield many dividends for the nation.
David Kotei Poison, Ghana’s first world WBC boxing champion, Joseph King Kong Agbeko (former IBF champion), Emmanuel Tagoe (former IBO champion), Thunder Ayeh (former Commonwealth champion) and officials from GNPC, ADB and the media were present and they endorsed the committee and activities.
The Bukom Fist of Fury Boxing League is scheduled to begin on September 28, 2018.
