Three Ugandan boxers will take part in the 2018 AIBA Youth World Championships on Aug. 20-31 in Budapest, a sports official said.
Simon Barigo, the secretary of the Uganda Boxing Federation, told Xinhua in an interview that the boxers were selected due to their performances at the Africa Youth Boxing Championship in Casablanca, Morocco in May.
The trio are Regan Musoke (flyweight), John Fisher Odoch (lightweight) and Ukasha Matovu (light-welter weight). Musoke and Matovu won a silver and bronze medal respectively in Casablanca.
“The three boxers are preparing well and we are optimistic they will perform well in Hungary,” Barigo said, adding that the event will also be used as qualifiers for the 2018 Youth Olympics in Argentina.
