MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing Academy will team up with the South African-based Kalakoda Promotions for the first time when they host the Desert Rumble 3 boxing bonanza at the Swakopmund Dome on Friday, 3 August.
At a press conference in Windhoek on Tuesday, promoter Nestor Tobias said the partnership would promote Namibian boxing worldwide.
“This is the first time that we have teamed up with Kalakoda Promotions and I hope this partnership will grow and produce better boxers in Namibia because our aim is to produce more world champions,” he said.
“This partnership will provide a good platform for our boxers while it will also promote Namibia as a country because all the fights will be live on TV, on Kwese Sport as well as on NBC. The fights will be broadcast worldwide so it will put Namibia and its boxers on the map,” he said, adding that they hoped to stage four or five boxing events per year in collaboration with Kalakoda Promotions.
Jeremiah Nakathila will top the bill when he defends his WBO Africa super featherweight title over 12 rounds against Crispin Moliati of Malawi, and Tobias said he could fight for the world title in the near future.
“Jeremiah is currently ranked fifth in the world by the WBO so a victory will push him right up into contention for the title. The WBO title is currently vacant, so the top two ranked boxers will fight for the vacant title, and if Jeremiah wins he could become a mandatory challenger,” he said.
“This will be a great fight and Jeremiah is very excited. His dream is to become a world champion so this is his opportunity and he must just win,” he added.
Nakathila, who has a record of 15 wins and only one defeat, will start as the favourite against the Malawian who has a record of 22 wins, 4 draws and 8 defeats.
He said he was ready to give a great performance.
“I’m honoured to be in the main fight, I’m ready and prepared and I can’t wait for my opponent to arrive. I will be ready and will show some classic boxing to my fans,” he said.
There will be a total of four fights on the undercard, including two more African title fights.
In the main supporting bout Abraham ‘Energy’ Ndaendapo will take on Bilindo Eseko of the DRC over 12 rounds for the vacant WBF Africa junior lightweight title.
Ndaendapo, who lost his last fight in April against Xolisani Ndongeni of South Africa, has a record of 16 wins and six defeats, while Eseko who is only 22 years old, has a record of eight wins and two defeats.
Lukas ‘The Demolisher’ Ndafoluma, who has a record of 11 wins and one defeat, will take on Jimmy Mabundji of the DRC over 12 rounds for the WBF Africa super middleweight title. Mabundjii has a record of nine wins – seven via knockout – and three defeats.
In a junior welterweight fight over four rounds, Harry Simon Junior, who is still undefeated after five fights, will take on Lukas Handivele, who has a record of one win, three defeats and one draw.
In a junior bantamweight fight over four rounds, Sakaria Nikodemus will make his professional debut against Fillemon Nghutenyane who has one professional win to his name.
The tickets are N$350 for VIP tickets or N$100 for general tickets and can be bought at the Dome in Swakopmund.
