The Dome Swakopmund will once again be in the Namibian boxing spotlight when the country’s premier sport and lifestyle facility plays host to the third edition of Desert Rumble on 3 August.
“The fight night, made possible through The Dome’s long-standing relationship with South African promoting ace Kalakoda Promotions and Africa’s television giant Kwesé Sports, will form part of The Dome’s official opening week, which will consist of a variety of events. The Nestor Sunshine Tobias Boxing Academy has also joined for this tournament to further increase its prestige,” The Dome said in a press release.
“It is both a privilege and an honour to collaborate with The Dome Swakopmund again and this time for an even bigger event. We have built a strong partnership with them, staging two events at this world class facility last year. This has laid the foundation to position Swakopmund and The Dome as a new centre of boxing for Namibia and, indeed, the continent”, said Jeremy Bean, marketing manager of Kalakoda Promotions.
The event is set to feature an impressive three title fights. In the main event, Jeremiah Nakathila, signed with the Tobias stable, will defend his WBO Africa Super Featherweight title against Crispin Moliati of Malawi over 12 rounds.
Nicknamed “Low Key”, Nakathila is an exciting fighter with only one blemish to his impressive record. This single loss came as the result of a points decision in Russia when he fought for the vacant WBO Inter-Continental Super Featherweight Title in 2016.
The main supporting bout will see Swakopmund’s Abraham “Energy” Ndeandapo go toe to toe with Bilindo Eseko from the Democratic Republic of Congo for the WBO African Super Featherweight title.
Ndeandapo has been keeping active since joining the Kalakoda Promotions stable and this fight in front of his home crowd will signal a critical point in his career. A big win is needed for him to push on to the next level and compete with the elite lightweights, one of the most competitive divisions globally.
“Fighting at home in front of my Swakopmund fans is when I perform at my best. I am motivated, and I am ready – this is my time”, Ndaendapo said ahead of his fight.
The third title bout of the night will be contested between Lukas Ndafoluma and DRC’s Jimmy Mabundji for the WBF Africa middleweight title scheduled for 10 rounds.
Ndafoluma has been successful in 12 of his 13 bouts in the paid ranks and will be out to improve his record on 3 August. Ndafoluma should however not underestimate his opponent, who comes with nine wins after 12 professional fights.
For the first time, Desert Rumble fans will also witness a battle between two females as Namibia’s Martina Tjauha takes on Revai Madondo from Zimbabwe over six rounds.
