WBC world light heavyweight champion Adonis “Superman” Stevenson and two-division world champ Badou Jack both made weight for their heavily-anticipated showdown tonight at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Canada.
Stevenson, the 40-year-old ageless wonder, will be making the ninth defense of his title. Considered the most powerful southpaw in the sport today, his impressive run includes wins over Chad Dawson, Tony Bellew, Andrzej Fonfara and Sakio Bika.
Jack, who promoter Floyd Mayweather called “The Face of Mayweather Promotions,” would be considered one of the world’s best fighters, pound for pound, if he wins his third world title tonight. His mind-boggling string of victories includes wins over George Groves, Anthony Dirrell, Lucian Bute, Nathan Cleverly, and a controversial draw verdict in a bout most felt Jack won.
Here are the weights and quotes from the fighters:
WBC Light Heavyweight World Championship
Adonis Stevenson – 173 ¼ Pounds
Badou Jack – 175 Pounds
Referee: Ian John-Lewis (England); Judges: Guido Cavalleri (Italy), Jesse Reyes (Texas), Eric Marlinski (New York)
ADONIS STEVENSON
“Anything he brings, I will be ready. I will get the job done. This will not go 12 rounds. I just need one punch, only one.”
BADOU JACK
“I’m just going to go in there and be smart and win the fight. I have no nerves, I’m just excited. I felt he was nervous; you could feel it. He’s finally in against a real fighter. He hasn’t fought anyone top-notch since 2013.”
