The Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) has summoned a squad of 20 boxers for non-residential training in preparation for the Africa Youth Boxing Championship due in Morocco next month.
The Continental championship that will involve both boys and girls is scheduled for May 5-11 in the Moroccan city, Casablanca.
UBF received an invitation from AIBA the world governing body to participate in the championships that call for youth bellow the age of 18.
However, of the 20 summoned boxers, only 14 showed up for the first training last week.
The squad under Coach Sam Kabugo will be trimmed down to the final team of eight to represent the country in Casablanca.
UBF secretary Simon Peter Barigo said that all boxers are in good shape.
“The boys are in reasonable form. I believe they can perform,” he said confidently.
