Sena Agbeka had simply too much skill for Lawrence Blakey. Agbeko used his jab and combinations to keep Blakey off-balance and win a six-round unanimous decision at the State Fairgrounds Sports Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.
Since returning to the ring one year ago, all six of Agbeko’s bouts have come at light heavyweight. This might change as the Nashville resident by way of Accra, Ghana steps up the quality of opposition.
Blakey was simply too slow to compete with the 26-year-old Agbeko and far too defensive-minded. “The African Assassin” was a little lethargic initially, but gradually loosened up and gained control, using a stiff jab and right crosses behind them. It was only the second time he’s faced a southpaw in his pro career, but he showed the ability to adapt and adjust.
Other than the opening stanza, Blakey offered little in terms of offense. Agbeko is expected to increase the opponent level in 2018. Final cards on this one read 59-55 and 60-54 twice. Agbeko improves to 21-1 (18 KOs) while Blakey falls to 5-9-2 (2 KOs).
