The MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing and Fitness Academy launched its annual Independence boxing bonanza in the capital this morning. Uniquely titled “The Legacy Fight” in honour of Namibia’s three Presidents, the fight will celebrate and honour their legacies by displaying world class boxing with a whopping 14 fights on the card.
World acclaimed Trainer and Promoter, Nestor Tobias, said he was pleased to celebrate Namibia’s 28th Independence by way of boxing, and distinctly honouring the legacy of Namibia’s statesman who have paved the way to securing Namibia’s independence, preserving peace and stability and now fighting for economic freedom and emancipation.
Nestor explained that boxing and sports in Namibia is where it is because we enjoy peace and stability, unlike other countries where young man and women cannot compete because of instability. This is the best way we know how to make our contribution by announcing a world class fight card for boxing fans against tough opponents. We will have 3 WBO Africa title fights on the line, and 3 of our champions all defending their respective titles. This fight is massive for them because they are all word rated boxers.
For the main bout, Walter now rated #5 and still undefeated will take on Billy Godoy from Argentina in defence of his WBO Africa title, Jeremiah Nakathila now rated #6 by the WBO will take on Patrick Okine from Ghana in defence of his WBO Africa Jnr Lightweight title, while Mike Shonena now rated #15 by the WBO will defend his WBO Africa Welterweight title against Idd Plalari from Tanzania for the first time.
There will be exciting undercard bouts including rising amateur boxers that will start the boxing bonanza as early as 17h00 to keep boxing fans entertained. The promising Harry Simon Jnr will also feature as an undercard and will look to extend his unbeaten impressive run. We expect the main bout to start around 10h30 so that we have enough time to entertain the crown with live music performances by One Blood and Destruction Boyz who promised sizzling performances right after the main bout.
Officiating at the launch, Deputy Minister of Information, Communication and Technology commended the Academies contribution to celebrating Namibia’s Independence by honouring Dr. Sam Nujoma, Dr. Hifikepunye Pohamba and now Dr. Hage Geingob.
“What is of paramount significance about our 3 Presidents is that their transition from one to the other was done peacefully. Thus speaks volumes about the political DNA of the Namibian people, a peaceful and loving nation. This is one of the reasons why we celebrate Namibia’s independence, because we have something important to celebrate, which is the peace we continue to enjoy thanks to our leaders. Let me however emphasize that you have boldly and strategically decided to honour the legacies of 3 very distinct men, 3 legends, 3 Men of Honour. We cannot let them down by losing any of the 3 title fights on the card. I was assured by Nestor and Tim that Walter “The Executioner” Kautondokwa, Jeremiah “Low key” Nakathila and Mike Shonena, all WBO world rated boxers and African champions, and that they will not let us down come the 20th March 2018 at Ramatex. Whenever Namibians converge during such events their pride and their passion for Nationhood is rekindled. This augurs well with the National Pride and Nationhood Campaign of My Namibia, My Country, and My Pride executed under the tutelage of the Ministry of ICT.”
The Legacy Independence Boxing Bonanza will take place at Ramatex on the 20th April and gates will open from as early as 15h00. VIP tickets sell for only N$500 while general tickets sell for N$50 only. The boxing will be followed by live music performances by Namibia’s One Blood group with the popular song Warakata and Destruction Boyz to Omunye the night away.
