The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) in collaboration with Ghana Boxing Federation (GABF), National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports on Tuesday, opened a four-day national coach’s certification course at the Media Centre of the Accra Sports Stadium.
The course is aimed at sharpening the skills of coaches ahead of the impeding revival of the national boxing league.
The course, which runs till Friday, January 5, was opened by the Deputy Minister of MOYS, Mr, Pius Enam Hadzide and was attended by Director General of the NSA, Dr. Robert Sarfo Mensah , Dep. Director-General of NSA, Mr Saka Acquaye, the Director of Sports of MOYS, Mr Abedu Wilson.
Also in attendance were Mr. Peter Zwennes, President of GBA and Mr George Lamptey of GBF and Mr. Moses Foh Amoaning former President of GBA.
The course was handled by coach Ofori Asare – the only certified boxing coach in Ghana.
Miss Gifty Naa Darkuah Dodoo, Public Relations Officer of the GBA told the GNA Sports that, the course is part of efforts to increase the number of certified coaches in Ghana.
She said most coaches in the country are not well trained and certified and are only coaching due to their passion and interest in the sport.
Miss Darkuah Dodoo said the course will enhance the quality of boxers on the local scene and improve their performance.
