WINDHOEK – Namibia’s former World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa Cruiserweight champion, Vikapita Meroro, lost to Maxim Vlasov of Russia on Thursday evening in a non-title cruiserweight bout.
In a fight that was monitored on the live streaming website Youtube by Nampa, the Namibian boxer was knocked out with one minute 16 seconds left in the first round.
Vlasov was on the front foot from the start as he landed various combinations to unsettle the Namibian boxer, who offered little resistance.
Following a combination of punches from Vlasov, Merero was floored with what looked like a routine left hook.
The Russian had landed several punches to the body of the Beast Master, who failed to land a single punch as he tried to use his jab, which proved ineffectual.
With Merero offering no challenge, Vlasov attacked his opponent with several body punches before unleashing a left hook that caught Beast Master on the chin and sent him sprawling onto the canvas.
The referee gave Merero a 10-second count but the stocky pugilist failed to get up, giving the fight to his Russian opponent via a knockout.
Merero now has a record of 35 fights of which he won 28 and lost seven.
Vlasov now holds a record of 41 victories and two losses over the span of 43 fights.
The fight was billed as Meroro’s comeback following his loss against Kevin Lerena from South Africa in February this year.
