The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has partnered the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) and the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) to develop juvenile boxing in the country.
The boxing bodies (professional and amateur) have initiated a talent hunt program to scout for young talented boxers in the Odododiodio Constituency and its environs.
The identified talents would be groomed to amateur boxers and later guided to be professional boxers.
The official launch of the event was held a fortnight ago in the presence of the GOC President, Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah, Prof. Azumah Nelson and Mr. Amarkai Amarteifio who would be the patron for the program.
According to the modalities for the program, a juvenile boxing bout would be held every two weeks as a way of identifying talents.
President of the GBA, Peter Zwennes appealed to the GOC for support to furnish their office given by the Sports Emporium inside the Bukom Boxing Arena.
He said an allocation in the office would be given to be used by the two bodies as the secretariat for the juvenile program.
In response to the request, the GOC has donated an amount of GH₵9,000.00 as part of their support to the growth and development of juvenile boxing in the country.
