At the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Boxing Youth and Junior Championships in Ladysmith last weekend, three female boxers from Harry Gwala District were selected to participate in the national championships to be held from October 6 to 8.
The boxers are Asiphe Mabandla, Aphiwe Dinana and Ntombentle Ngcobela, who won gold.
Mabandla was announced the best female boxer and earned a trophy. Boxers from 11 districts participated.
Harry Gwala District boxing coaches Nkosi’entsha Ntintili, Winnie Cele, Jean Nyembezi and Siziphiwe Mfeka are pleased with their performances.
“Male boxers also performed well, but were not lucky to be selected for the national champs.
“Male boxer Onke Gogela received a silver medal after doing well,” said Nyembezi.
She said selected boxers started training in Dundee from today, September 29 until October 8.
