On November 10, Kalakoda Promotions’ and Kwesé Sport’s Friday Fight Night Boxing Series leaves African soil for the first time, the date marks an Africa vs UK format featuring four WBC Silver Titles, staged at the iconic Victoria Warehouse in Manchester, England. Kalakoda Promotions have teamed up with North England based Promotion VIP Boxing, forging an international co-promotion and a unique event that has been some 4 months in the planning.
Eight African boxers have been selected to form Team Africa and matched against eight British Fighters (Team UK), the two teams will compete on the 10th of November across eight bouts (four non-title and four title) with a special trophy being presented to the winning team. The event presents an exciting opportunity for African prospects to compete for WBC International belts, test their skills against their British counterparts and tour the UK boxing circuit.
This exciting opportunity also see Team Africa spend some time touring the UK and attending the Chelsea vs Manchester United fixture at Stamford Bridge and a tour of Old Trafford.
“We are delighted to be working with Kalakoda Promotions, the stage is set for a great night of boxing with four title fights and a stacked undercard, tickets will go on sales soon and we are expecting a sell-out crowd, with many African expat communities in Manchester coming to support Team Africa.” – Darren Lamb – VIP Boxing
“Our vision is to reposition Boxing on the continent and provides opportunities for African fighters to compete at the highest level, through our partnership with Kwesé Sport we believe events such as these lay the foundation for a new dawn in Pan African Boxing. This format has massive legs and this is just the beginning of many exciting things we have in the works – watch this space” – Saul Loggenberg – Kalakoda Promotions
Team Africa is made up of boxers from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo, the notable title match ups see team captain Felix Venganayi of Zimbabwe take on local favorite Joe Murray for the WBC (International) Silver Lightweight Title and the exciting, unbeaten prospect from the DRC, Emmany Kalombo take on Mark Thompson for the WBC (International) Silver Super Welterweight Title. These two fights top a quality fight card that promises great evenly matched contests and a high standard of boxing.
“This is the opportunity of a lifetime, I have only dreamed of competing in the UK, now it’s happening, these UK boys better be ready as Team Africa is coming to win and take the Team trophy back to Africa, I’ve watched some video of Thompson on Youtube, he can fight, but I’m not worried” – Emmany Kalombo – DRC Super Welterweight Fighter.
Kalakoda Promotions have staged some spectacular nights of boxing across African cities and are fast becoming known for boxing events that have a cross-over appeal and attract the casual fan. This trend continues with their UK outing on the 10th of November where iconic Manchester electronic group 808 State team up with the Kalakoda resident, South Africa’s DJ Switch to provide the beats between rounds on the night, extending the UK-Africa theme into the music entertainment on offer. The intercontinental pop culture cross cover continues with South African Sneaker Store Shelflife and African streetwear brand Mizizi coming onboard to provide the Team Africa tour merchandise and Manchester Streetwear brand Gio Goi providing the Team UK merchandise.
