FIJI amateur boxing coach Pauliasi Ratu says Fiji Amateur Boxing Association is aiming to win at least six gold medals in the 2017 Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu later this year.
FABA has organized an amateur bout for the fighters at Raiwai Youth Hall this afternoon.
“We are anticipating a good event where some of the good boxers will be fighting in the program,” Ratu said.
“I hope the coaches would bring the top boxers who have been selected to represent Fiji at the Pacific Mini Games.
“Fiji has very good boxers who can win gold medals in the competition where we are aiming for at least six gold medals.”
Fiji will take eight boxers to the Pacific Mini Games to be coached by Ratu and assisted by Napoleon Taumoepeau and Oscar Nanovo.
“We need more competition for the boxers to gain confidence and experience,” he said.
“I will be looking at the boxers tomorrow (today) and I believe the more the compete in the ring, the more experience they become.”
